What Does Cold Steel Have to Say About the Panga?
"The Panga machete is the standard machete pattern used throughout most of the African continent. Offering a wide blade with an upswept point, it is an excellent tool for cutting thick brush and chopping down saplings and small trees. As an agricultural tool (cutlass), it is an essential partner in harvesting corn and sugar cane."
The blade is formed from a high carbon steel with extremely strong and flexible properties. A test at the Cold Steel Knives facility demonstrated the blade can bend a full 90° without breaking. This does not indicate 'flimsiness', a flexible blade is designed to hack for efficiently than rigid blades.
General Machete Info
The term machete is actually the Spanish version of the English word, "Matchet", which is very rarely used even in English.
There are many variations of this type of tool/weapon, the Panga (or Tapanga) is the weaponized version originated in Africa. The design is extremely similar to a parang, or bolo.
